Look after your home this winter

Once again, we’ve got to that time of year when we’re digging the thick socks and heavy scarves out of the back of the wardrobe. Meanwhile, the daunting thought of drafts and damp haunts us. Have a read of our top tips to ensure your home stays warm, cosy and mould-free this winter.

Maintain your appliances

Keep your boiler servicing up to date, check carbon monoxide alarms are working and ensure plumbing and pipes are in satisfactory condition.

Control moisture levels

Dampness and condensation are the primary culprits behind mould growth. Ensure adequate ventilation, avoid drying clothes indoors, cover saucepans and close doors when bathrooms and kitchens are in use. Consider using a dehumidifier.

Ensure your property is properly insulated

Increase or intall loft insulation, check external pipes are insulated and bring cold spots such as concrete beams up to modern standards. Draftproof windows and outside doors but do not block ventilators.

Looking after your property and keeping on top of maintenance during these colder months is the best way to ensure a safe and comfortable home and prevent more major issues in the long term.
